Are there any books that will teach me everything, and also give me tips to make sure I never make bad mistakes in stock market investing? Perhaps there are forums, newsletters, online mentors, etc that have helped better your knowledge of investing. Please only helpful answers.

Head to your local library, ask the librarian for the investment section…even a small library will have a few dozen books on investing (plus there is inter-library loan). Head to the web site of the SEC – they have a ton of good tutorials.

And just so you know, you will make mistakes – everyone who invests does…the goal is to make fewer mistakes than correct guesses.

One way to learn painlessly is to start watching CNBC on a regular basis. At first the terms may be a bit over your head but you will start to pick things up. Two good shows to watch are Fast Money (5 pm Eastern time M-F) and Mad Money (6 pm Eastern Time M-F). Also, go to Amazon.com and search on “beginning stock investing” and you will find a ton of books. Buy one and read it.

Do paper trading. For example write down how much stock you would have bought and at what price then track the results. Don’t forget to include trading fees. It is a lot less stressful than losing real money. You can also watch BNN. It is a stock market channel you can watch free episodes on the internet. http://www.bnn.ca/ It’s a Canadian station but you get the same idea. There are quite a few books out there. Look in amazon.com and see which one has the highest ratings and the most.

Some things to consider:
currency risk
stop loss orders
value investing – warren buffett
blue chip stocks
dividends
also look at the taxation issues like capital gains vs. dividends
what happens if a company declares bankruptcy (stock wise)
short selling (risky in a sense)
dollar cost averaging (might be good for current lousy market)

Also look at holdings of good performance major mutual funds (cheating). Usually if you buy their major holdings you will get a way better return than a mutual fund (and no MER). You will also notice that most mutual funds have the same major holdings. And if some of their major holdings change, they change at the same time.

These are all securities, so securities quotes would also work.
